1. Verify Identity, Not Just Paperwork

Documents are easy to fake. Confirm that phone numbers, email domains, and addresses match official FMCSA records — and call the number on record, not the number on the email, when something needs confirming.

2. Be Suspicious of Too-Good-to-Be-True Rates

Fraudulent operators win loads by underbidding, because they have no intention of delivering honestly. A rate far below market isn't a bargain — it's bait.

3. Confirm the Truck at the Dock

Before freight leaves, confirm the driver's name, truck and trailer numbers, and carrier identity against what was assigned. A mismatch is a stop-everything moment, not a technicality.

4. Watch for Last-Minute Changes

Sudden swaps — a new driver, a different truck, a changed pickup time from an unfamiliar contact — are classic fraud signatures. Legitimate changes can be verified through your original point of contact; fraudulent ones fall apart under that scrutiny.

7. Know Who's Actually Hauling
